Untamed Sri Lanka

My best birding experience in Sri Lanka , thanks to Aves Nature Trails and my personal bird guide Thilanka.

I had the most wonderful experience with Thilanka and his family. Thilanka was so generous with his time and knowledge, I wasn’t a birder before this trip but I quickly discovered the beauty of birds. Thilanka and his family were so hospitable and went above and beyond to make sure that we had an unforgettable experience. I will always remember the beauty of Sri Lanka fondly because of the time spent with Thilanka and his family. I would 100% recommend travelling with Aves Nature Trails.

Never thought how much fun bird watching would be until we met Thilanka and Nimali. Our first visit was to a beautiful forest reserve in Baduraliya where he made us observe birds in their natural habitat. Being limited only to a viewer of the birds visiting my garden, I was surprised how I was able to explore the magical behaviour of birds.

A big thank you to Thilanga for our visit to Anavilundawa wetlands. Your knowledge on the local & migratory birds is extremely amazing. I am also very impressed by your passion on nature & history. I think your visits to many many countries has enhanced your overall knowledge. Most of all I am impressed by your extensive details of the birding population in Srilanka. Your desire to share your knowledge is really great. As you suggested we will do many more trips with you as you seemto know all to birding & nature sites in Srilanka. I wasn't much into birds until I met these wonderful people at Aves Nature Trails. Thanks to Mr Thilanka who is the founder of this company, now I'm a big fan of birds!! They guide you to enter this beautiful world of birds without disturbing their natural habitats. They have a thorough knowledge about almost every bird , their behaviour and their habitats. If you're a bird watcher, you must have to have a lot of patience and they are full of it!! I highly recommend these guys for bird watchers and nature lovers. They are the best!!

Thilanka and his family were the highlight of our tour of Sri Lanka, we stayed with them for the best part of a week and had many wonderful experiences. We had been communicating a lot prior to our arrival and when we did finally make it to their house we were welcomed like family. They went out of their way to make us feel welcome and look after us. The house was lovely and the garden full of interesting trees and shrubs.
We had a few excursions planned which they helped us organise and prepare for. Thilanka also took us to some amazing places including to see wild elephants, we saw a wild tortoise. Many interesting birds and plants, they were extremely knowledgeable about the wildlife. Thilanka and his father are the defacto bird gurus of sri lanka! I very much hope to see them again sometime.

I use to know Thilanka as a birder and we were friends in facebook. When I visited Sri Lanka in 2014 to attend a board meeting I made sone time to go out for birding and Thilanka was the local guide to take me to Kithulgala. He took me to the rainforest and I have a memorable walk through the rain forest in drizzle. Have got some birds also. Sri Lanka is famous for its 30+ endemic birds. Of them I could find two of them in that half day trip. But I would always remember the caution and care observed by Thilanka and the knowledge he had regarding the birds and terrain of Sri Lanka. I would love to go back again on the trail with him!

On my last travel to Sri Lanka, I have taken a nature trails and standard tour with Thilanka and Nimali and it won’t be last!!! This service is simply outstanding. You can feel, that they are very passionate about animals , nature and their business,. They have a vast knowledge and it was highly interesting to listen to them.
I loved the structure and professional tailoring of the tour, at the same time they were always extremely kind and open dot change anything according to the personal wishes and needs. Because they have travelled a lot themselves across the globe, they are very aware of tailoring a tour according to the individual needs. Because they are passionate nature lovers and travellers themselves. They have a vast knowledge to share. I would highly recommend their tours and am looking forward to next one.
